Meet your Mentor *

I’m Carinnya, Founder and Lead Mentor at MAD. I graduated with a Master of Architecture (Prof) from Victoria University of Wellington in 2015 and became a Registered Architect four (and a bit) years later. Alongside my work in practice, I’ve spent nine years in academia as a tutor and assistant lecturer, and it’s this passion for supporting students and graduates has given life to MAD.

From being an NZIA Student Design Awards Finalist to a Registered Architect, I know firsthand how challenging architecture school can be and how all-consuming it is to pursue registration. I’ve been there: the pressure, the all-nighters, and figuring out strategies (and, let’s be honest, a few coping mechanisms) to make it through.

My goal? To make sure that wherever you are on your architecture journey, you know there’s professional online support available - a fresh and focused set of eyes on your studio project after no sleep (hopefully not), an experienced writer to review your essays or case studies, or just an encouraging chat to help you navigate the ups and downs of architecture life.

Here’s the thing: I’d love to see you smash your grades, land that dream job, and submit those case studies. But what excites me most about MAD is that beyond all those good things, we’re here to help you thrive in shaping and honouring the people, place, and culture of Aotearoa and the Pacific through architecture.

How MAD works?

  1. BOOK A SERVICE

    Choose from our extensive list of service offerings from 1:1 online sessions to the submit-and-review service for essays, portfolios or case studies.

  2. EMAIL YOUR WORK / CONFIRM SESSION TIME

    For the submit-and-review service, once purchased you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to submit your work to MAD along with timeframes and Terms and Conditions.

    If you’ve opted for a session, you’ll receive an email to confirm a time and date as well as Terms and Conditions.
